Grande Opens in Ocho Rios
If you have visited Ocho
Rios in the past, you no doubt saw the Jamaica Grande, the tallest
property in the city, located right on Turtle Beach. Today,
following a complete, multimillion dollar renovation, the hotel
has reopened as the Sunset Jamaica Grande, a sister property to
Montego Bay's Sunset Beach and Negril's Sunset at the Palms. New
additions include a new, open-air lobby links the resort's two
guestroom towers, which overlook the Caribbean Sea and Jamaica's
countryside and the addition of three new pools, bringing the
total to five.
Weddings:
You can choose to celebrate nuptial bliss with a ceremony in the
gardens or the beach. Wedding ceremony packages are priced from
US$700 and include the minister's fee, license, bridal bouquet and
groom's boutonniere, a bottle of champagne, romantic dinner on the
wedding night and breakfast the following morning, a Jamaican
wedding cake and more. Receptions and dinners for larger events
can be arranged at an additional cost. Honeymoon packages are also
available.
Good for
Families: If you picture combining a romantic getaway and a
family vacation, Sunset Jamaica Grande just might be the answer.
Along with the five pools, the resort is home to the new Club
Mongoose with supervised kids' fun.including an exciting 'water
jet' area so kids can cool off. A new teen games room features fun
for the older set.
Dining: All
new restaurants include Grande Palm, a buffet style, open-air
restaurant overlooking the fantasy pool's meandering river and
waterfalls; Ginger Lily featuring Asian favorites infused with
Caribbean flavor; LaDiva Italian offering regional pasta dishes,
fresh seafood and foccacia bread from a wood-burning brick oven;
and Cafe Jamalicious serving Island and American favorites. Two
new beach grills were also added.
All new bars include the Bambü
Lobby Bar, Blue Mahoe Lobby Bar, Ortanique Lobby Bar, two beach
bars and swim-up pool bars as well as the Café Bean coffee bar.
The famous Jamaica'N Me Crazy Nightclub received a refurbishment
and there is an electronic casino, home to electronic black jack
and 80 slot machines.
Spa:
The resort is also home to the new Aqua Azul Spa, offering a
variety of techniques including Thai, Swedish, Aromatherapy,
Reflexology, Hot Stone, and Sports Massage. Other spa services
include reflexology, a milk and honey body wrap, mango manicure
and the popular coffee ground scrub.
Opening
Rates: Special rates, effective for travel through December
22, 2005 are $239 per room, per night in a Resort View Room and
$500 per room, per night for a One-Bedroom Suite. Single rates
start at $189 per person. Rates from January 1-April 15, 2006
range from $350 per room, per night to $590 per room, per night.
Rates include accommodations
with a private balcony, all meals, bar beverages, afternoon tea
and late-night snacks, all non-motorized water sports, access to
the tennis court, nightly entertainment, taxes, service charges
and tips.
