Venezuela
to fund rural electricity network in Jamaica
Venezuelan Vice-Minister of Finance and chair of the Social
Development Bank (Bandes) Rafael Isea Monday announced that the
Venezuelan Government has received a proposal from Jamaica - a
country President Hugo Chávez is currently paying an official
visit- to fund a USD 10 million rural power network project.
Around 50 percent of the amount
would be Venezuelan components, and therefore power technology
developed in Venezuela would be used in the project.
According to Isea, both countries
are monitoring the progress made in funding of other works in
Jamaica such as the coastal roadway, a cultural compound, the
construction of a hall named after Liberator Simón Bolívar and a
credit line to finance the construction of houses.
The official added that they are
simultaneously finding new cooperation areas to boost integration
among countries in the region, in the framework of Chávez'
initiative Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas.
